I'm writing this as it comes to me I will no dought add to this overtime, feel free to contribute and I will edit this first post. Usually in most games Manual gears is usually always faster than auto. Manual GearsPositives:*Auto has lag between gears manual has less(or none) *Can select what gear you want to be in for what corner (more power through the corner). *Faster stopping power if downshifting correctly *Faster acceleration (changing at optimum RPMs) Negatives:*Have to remember to change gear * In LFS you have to go completely off throttle to downshift - that can be annoying. Especially on using shifter paddles and autoclutch it's sometimes resulting in sticking to the wrong gear at entering a turn - or in shifting one gear too low - Solved map the clutch to the same button/pedal as downshift Manual ClutchThe ultimate "trick" in NASCAR Heat and Rfactor, in both of these games you don't have to put the clutch in to change gears (unlike LFS) but simply get off the gas while changing gears and change gears, which after getting use to it provides the small advantage in acceleration. But mostly the advantage is in downshifting, less lag in gears than manual gears/auto clutch combo if downshifting effectively you will have to change your brake bias for your new found braking power. Positives:*When downshifting there is no lag and automatically shifts into the next gear slowing the car a lot faster *If getting the timing correctly is almost an instant gear change (faster than auto gears and manual gear change) Negatives:*Have to get off the gas to change gears *In some games have to put the clutch in to change gears (take a lot more precision) *Have to have clutch in when stationary and in gear to prevent the car from stalling I have been using manual clutch for sometime now, I first used it after seeing Crash type at HMC Queensland that he didn't know how to get his car started (indicating to me it had stalled) I knew straight away what he was running and soon tried it out and shaved two seconds off my times at GT Masters Birmingham doing a 1.19. People who have already discovered this little trick probably wont be to happy with me releasing this information. But I have looked at it a different way now. I see it as kind of an unfair advantage because some/most people don't know about it. If I cant beat another driver driving the same setup then I deserve not to beat the better driver Harding

I see it as kind of an unfair advantage because some/most people don't know about it. It's as "unfair" as using manual shifting.... or using chase view or F2 view... or making adjustments on your setup... or using an H-gated shifter... or using throttle levers .... or steering by keyboard... etc pp It's an option the game offers. It's no hidden option. Everybody is free to make use of that option or not use it. We don't force cockpit view in races for good reason. And there would be no way to force people use steering wheels (Carlos was faster on keyboard than most on wheels...unfair ?), pedals and shifters. Even if you could force it, you'd have to make sure everybody has the same gear to use - I don't run a $50 wheel for example - and the same environment. As every single aspect makes a difference and could have impact on your ability to drive fast.

Anything that makes any driver drive faster than previously makes the racing that much more closer and more fun. Fair equals fun, if everyone was using the same set of pedals, same setup, racing in the same view. The racing would be close and it would be heaps of fun. But that's kind of unrealistic. We don't all have those magic money tree's. But I hope you get where I'm coming from, I agree with you fully Karl, but now everyone knows my little secret I feel a lot better .

Addition to my previous post:
mapping the downshifter paddle to C did the track...
Now by using that paddle pressing clutch and downshifting is done simultanously ;D

There it is! The infamous button clutch macro has reached the SpeedSims forum There are some monstrous lenghty threads about this in the LFS forums, with some people almost burning alive people who use it. Personally I dont have a problem using an option that is available for everyone

Had`nt realised it for about 3 or 4 races, many will recall me getting swamped at the start because the car had stalled. At first I thought it was some problem with new wheel set up. But once I went through the game settings & realised what the problem was, I changed it back to the setting I always have raced with, which is auto clutch. Cheers...

I'd have used an H-shifter (+ manual clutch), but stupid enough, LFS doesn't allow for that on the FXR... and since unfortunatly I don't have a sequential shifter, I setup the stuff I have for the best use I can get from it ;D

Triz Probably for the same reason I didn't too I dunno if it saves time, but it DOES save from sticking to the wrong gear on the turn's exit, which often was my problem

My mistake, I remember you saying the car stalled, which made sense so I tried it (which I had seen Richie racing with previously) and I tried it. I wont go back now I find it awesome, it gave me the extra .5-1second that I was lacking to be fast. I'm grateful you clicked the wrong option now . And I advise everyone who hasn't tried it to try it. I will have to try that trick on LFS, personally I like having a clutch button so I can rev her up (every car is a her, to be handled with care OR to be thrashed!!! ;D) but I will check it out. On a sort of off topic I told some people about the LFS demo race I was doing where the winner received an S2 license. To cut a long story short I now have an S2 license .

Though i think for myself i can't really get that much extra time out of it since i already am used to using the downshift while not throttling triz

I'll wait till my new computer (finally) gets here and I get a feel for the cars in the series . Race time will be Monday morning my time too, so I will have to suss out the timing . OnTopic: You take your foot off the gas? That's a new way of doing it
