Hello SpeedSim guys.
I would like to introduce myself. I’m Steve, born in 1959 in Germany, trained as a steel construction mechanics, then continuing more school to become a certificate as an technician and worked for many years in engine cooling and air conditioning car design.
My 3rth wife is Chinese, and Germany changes the law for people to immigrate, if they are from 3rth level countries, which also hit people are married. This means: Anyone who fails to pass the German language test will not receive a visa.
So we had to make a decision where the decline of the car industry, 2008-2009, made me very easy to decide, because I was fully out of any task, more than six month.
I moved to China and now live here already happy two years together with my wife.
Together we have a small restaurant with 12 tables and a bar with 250 square meters, which secures our income very well.
Many years I've been looking for a good racing game for the PC. Around 1994, I bought the F1 game GP1 and was quite pleased. A year later (I remember thinking to myself) I changed to the successor called GP2. The graphics and especially the AI were significantly higher at higher levels. Everything still running (the older among you may remember) to WIN 3.11.
Nowadays there are very many games out for PC and other consoles. But, there are games.
I have read test after test and was not willing to invest in one of these games even in a console. So I always stay in GP2. The GP2 community had brought out some mods with other tracks and cars. Then I created several seasons with different order of tracks using the official championships.
In GP2 I learned each level after another. First with a joystick, then with a Thrustmaster steering wheel (no FFB). With the steering wheel it was possible for me, to catch on an escaped tail (because flat rear wing setting). Only in Monaco, I had the maximum downforce settings. I get used to the wheel to win the championship in the highest level. I had to find all the car settings myself, because I had no Internet connection at that time. It was a hard working and testing time, but the results in fast lap times keep a smile on my face. GP2 is not a game, it is a simulation. And this it is, I really miss in all the games today.
Also, I was a bit tired to drive F1 only. Looking for a game which allow me to drive cars like Group C, GT and GT1 (perhaps even LMP), it finally seems I located I was looking for.
I look around a bit in your forum and it looks like your kind of thinking will fit with mine. Yes, for me it's not important to have high graphics outside the track. This will give me only a distraction. A good driving physics is much more important to me. To use the forum as friendly conversation and a place to talk about setups, tricks and much more. The battle should be fought hard but fair on the track. Also, an excuse should be able to speak after an accident, I have inflicted.
Now I stand again at the beginning of the race because I had no training for many years. Therefore, I first want to come back and get used to the track in the private (just win against computers enemies) until I'm back fit enough to run against you online. The simulations allow this, as I have read.
At first I want to upgrade my PC from two to six core, including a new graphic card. But, since I live in the south of China (Hong Kong about the amount), and here we have a 3 / 4 year, temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius, I want to invest in a water cooling system from a German manufacturer to achieve a pleasant temperature for the electronics parts. After then I will look to buy a new steering wheel and pedals. Everything require its time.
I've seen, you want to start a Group C race on 2011/09/10 at 22:00 pm CET. This would be here at 5:00 am in the mornig of the folowing day (7hr distance). Is there a way I can log in as a spectator? To see you in the struggle for positions and race? Look like on TV? Had a blast!
As much as I would like to connect me to you if you will accept me.
Now I hace a new G27, the watercooling will enter China end of this month. Than I ubgrade my PC. All this will give me some private time to come back into sim. BTW, for the moment I learn a bit with rfactor.
More of my hobbies are Slot-Racing and model trains scale N. And if I will find a Gitar here, maby I go back to R'n'Roll.
Best Regards
Steve W
