I have a bit of a soft spot for the vette, I'll make it but i got no idea what this thingypit is you guys are talking about. for that matter i got no idea how the models get into the game - but i can make a shell, bottom tray and some wheels. and i assume LOD versions just get boxier

Thus I'd strongly suggest to have a general concept about how to make tyres in a mod and especially how to map these. Tyres are something of eye-catchers and in older mods have been treated with too little respect IMO So better having someone who is up for making tyres for all cars than working these out for each car anew. I'd volunteer for making tyres - it's always been fun to me anyway Same about driver model and steering wheels btw LODs are indeed just the shell getting boxier - but in a way that the user won't notice it. Doing this right is a lot of work. And remapping over and over... was about 20-30h for each car in the mod

Getting a car into HEAT isnt that hard, a bit fiddly but easier than some other games. Read the tutorial about mod making, its very very good. I use AC3D for all my modeling. Its fab fast and free (for a 14 day period anyway) check out www.inivis.comBy the time I'm ready to export to HEAT I have the car mapped to its texture files (usually 1024x1024 tga) One file for the body shell, one for the parts like interior, wheel arches, underside, etc, and the glass is often mapped to another file. There are reasons for this. I export the different sections (body shell, "parts", and glass) as .3ds files from AC3D then import them into zmodeler, the first version NOT zmodeler2. Here I adjust the normals that control the shinyness - glass to be shiny, body to be medium shiny and "parts" to be dull. in zmodeler I combine the three sections together to make the car complete , rename it as high[1] then export that as a HEAT mod file. For the other models high [2] to high [9] I repeat the process using lower poly models. What I do is take out parts of the original that wont be seen as the car gets farther away - like the rollcage, interior, driver body, etc until by the time the car is say, High[5] its basically just a body shell with windows on wheels. I also reduce the poly count using AC3D. I can this quite a bit before having to remap in AC3D which is good. The thingy pit we refer to is the C-O-C-Kpit but you cant use that word on this forum because the program filters it out to be "thingy" and so on... mod files with other bits like the texture files get packed into car files which go into the game. Try taking apart a car file using winrestools to see whats in it, gives you a better idea Bubba

then of course the thought of doing something that hasnt been done before is quite appealing... I looked at the Grand-Am site...very interesting! I don't know a lot about it, the sports cars look very similar as if made by the same base manufacturer, not a bad idea as its a faster mod to make than doing 12+ different cars. Do the "prototype" and GT2 type cars race together? I saw some footage just now on you tube, and the racing was good! Close and fast and banging fenders, looked like nascar HEAT! Verrrrry interesting series... and the tracks they run on we already have a LOT of..

Actually GrandAm was what one of the last major NHeat modding projects was up for... didn't work for lack of modders.
Problem with the GrandAm Prototypes is that there's but few blueprints out there.

I had never thought of that... the Monaro (aka the Pontiac GTO in the USA - we exported them there from Oz) would be a GT2 car at most, but could really spice up GT2 at that. I have half decent mesh for that already

The good thing in making a mod is: the projekt starts with the first modder starting to make a car ;D On recent projects, there was never a start since after all that talking about the what and when everybody waited for somebody else to start DOING things. So if you want to have a SCGT09 mod, everybody interested in taking part making it should just start working on that part that he things he CAN do or that he would want to do. Even better, tell us what you're working on As mentioned, I'd be up for making tyres for now (just show me photos for the tyres/rims you need on your car for that mod), at least for the time I'm still working on the SCGTS GT1 cars. Once that's done, I 'll happily do more on SCGT09
