Sears Point Practice

Hey Guys just remember we will be having a Sears Point practice Monday night @ 7:30pm Eastern. Prior to the practice, please read this thread and make sure you have the correct track.

:)well, again not one of my fav tracks for cup ::)but i really like the track since conversion ;D so congrats to everyone involved in that project
when goin to a new track to test and work on a setup,, i like to research the track and actual lap times,, that way i have a target,, it helps me anyway, hehe,, anyway, according to wikipedia, jeff gordon holds the record at 1:15.950. usually the sim is pretty close to the real thing,, but,, in this case,, maybe because of the good jobs done on g3 and the track conversion, jeff is a lil slow hahaha,, i'm turning consistent 1:13s.
So here's the set i have so far,, it's very driveable and a good base to tweak, and in the low 13s for me. hope to see everyone tonight,, should be fun
btw,,fyi,, a lead foot is not a good thing at this track, slower is faster

TMS has done a fantastic job of updating the Sears Point track. My hat off to those guys for doing such a great job on this!

If your an old heat driver like me who's been around for a long time and use to the original Sears Point track, take your time the first few laps of getting acquainted with this track. You need to find new markings for your shifting and brake points..

Fast lap times are 1.09's. It might be possible to go faster, fastest as of tonight was a 1.09.5. That's what I hit in practice...

Also a few helpful tips, don't go all out trying to produce fast laps at once, wait until your tires have warmed up, you will see yourself producing faster lap times on older tires. This track feels like it has more grip. And practice angling your car around some of the curbs, this track is more challenging. In some spots if you hit it wrong you can tip your car a little bit. So add some weight to the front.

If I learned anything tonight, being super fast does not mean squat if you don't have sufficient practice, all you will do is wreck your car, if you don't take the time to get use to the new track. So I highly recommend taking a few slow laps around the track to get familiar with finding your marks for shifting and braking points.

Don it's great to see an old heat driver like you driving once again after a very long absence from racing. Have to say your getting right back into the groove real fast.

Now remember from last nights practicing, you started doing awesome when you yourself started using 3 gears. (learned that from an old friend of ours Crash ;D) Remember you don't need to hit 4th gear on this track.. I'll try to duplicate the laps again for you.

Hey guys... don't let real lap records at the track fool you. The track was reconfigured a few times since Heat was released, so what you are seeing in Heat, is not exactly the way it is now.

The Chute

The track was modified in 1998, adding the Chute, which bypassed turns 5 and 6 (the Carousel), shortening the course to 1.95 miles (3.14 km). The Chute is only used for NASCAR events such as the Toyota/Save Mart 350, and was criticized by many drivers, who prefer the full layout. In 2001, it was replaced with the 70° turn, 4A bringing the track to its current dimensions of 1.99 miles (3.20 km).

The Chute was built primarily to increase speeds and improve competition for the stock cars, which are not necessarily groomed well for road course racing.

So Heat has the 1.95 mile version, as opposed to the 1.99 mile they currently use.

And since 2001, they have added run-off areas (paved areas where grass or sand used to be), did away with dual pit lanes and made a single pitlane instead, and other changes.

But I'm glad to see you guys are liking the changes we did to it to make it "different" than the original. Its still the original Heat layout, but when they repaved it several years ago, it of course added grip... so we increased that some. Plus the new textures and cameras make it feel "new" in a way from the old one too. ;D

yes, it's went thru quite a few changes over the yrs,, tnx for the info ray,, and thanks for the new version,, it's so much more driveable and competitive now,, i actually like it now!
