I got the more official definition: Drifting: refers to a driving technique and to a motor sport where the driver intentionally skids the rear tires through turns, preserving vehicle control and a high exit speed. A car is said to be drifting when the rear slip angle is greater than the front slip angle prior to the corner apex, and the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn (e.g. car is turning left, wheels are pointed right or vice versa), and the driver is controlling these factors. As a motor sport, professional drifting competitions are held across the World. www.loopyvids.com/video/1526/Ken-Block-Drifting--Amazing-Video

What type of car are you going to drift smoke?( 4wd/2wd? front engine/mid engine/rear engine? big tourge or big power car? how big/long is the powerband of motor).
What i normaly do for qwik drift setup is harden rear springs and up the rear swaybar and turn wheel lock to max( actully i always run max lock nomatter what mod im racing on) then i play with tyre PSI(tyre bite and laterailgrip and wear) and shocks.
Il tryn upload a drift set for a front engine rear wheel drive if i find the time this week.
Great video but that subaru looks like its actully 4WDaquaplaining
Cheers:Richie

May I ask what is the reason for this request? Whenever I get into a drift is usually by mistake, and I try to get out of it as fast as possible, unless is the mother of all tight hairpins when power steering is faster than actually turning, and even so, Im not too sure the same applies for power steering and drifting, since the latest has a show factor built-in.

Well Richie basically nailed the initial car setup. A few other tips though, Never ever try to drift if you race auto gears. You cant pull the correct rev's and then when you get a drift going it changes gears on ya. Also I found setting a handbrake (in options.cfg) helped a lot although you cant get going from the very start of the corner for the handbrake to send the rear of the car out I found you have to be traveling at some speed and be turned almost full lock but still some fun. If you aren't common with drifting a starter technique is... say you came up to a right hander if you drive along the right side of the track and 50-100m before the corner you turned sharp left before correcting it and sending the rear out the other side and then throttle control and steering to get some good sideways action. Adelaide is a good track to drift at with the many 90degree turns and around that last turn is just perfect! Myself and KDSR_DK had a good few laps running this close drifting every corner possible. Would be kool to see oppositions smoke too! I hope to see some pic's like this over the next few weeks ;D. Might call for a completely custom Drift track to be made eh Smoke! , a real slick surface one ;D ;D

heres a novice approach. set front springs to medium say about 900-1000. fnt bumps to 300 or so frnt rebs to either 250 or 450, 250 first then test. frnt wing should b lo to avoid terminal oversteer. set rear springs hi up. rear bumps are iffy try lo first then increase gradually. set rear rebs hi= over 500 maybe to max. those are tne most important components. all other components not mentioned are to b adjusted to drivers liking. also a lo steering lock is suggested say 15-16. the point of drifting is to get the car to oversteer but in a controlled manner.

Hey Smoke, Is it just me....or do I see smoke, instead of dirt, flying up there behind the car? Shouldn't the dirt part of the course have the dirt characteristics...instead of pavement? Dirt would make it easier to powerslide the cars....or at least I would think so. Now I'm not saying to go out and download the UDTRA mod or any of the dirt latemodels type of stuff for Pikes Peak...but one that might do alot better on that track...would be something more suited for a track like that....such as the MTEG Stadium Truck mod: ffsracing.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=25&title=MTEG%20Stadium%20Trucks%20V2%20High%20Res%20Full%20VersionAnd don't forget mods like the old Jayblade mod "BajaBeasts" and stuff like that.I think FFSBudman has all that stuff in his downloads. You'll have to register there to download (and probably type in some code to "fetch it")...but he has most ALL the old mods on his site. I also have an unreleased mod around here that DRT_54 did, that is similar to the MTEG Stadium Trucks...but since it was never released to the public, it's probably not something everyone could get their hands on for a track like that....but I actually thought he did an excellent job on offroad type physics in his mod. But if you download that MTEG STadium Trucks....be sure and get some of the offroad tracks there...which will probably help with setups...since those tracks were made for the MTEG mod.

Yes the MOD has ALOT todo with it!. Ive been practicing with v8supercar/wgts and scgts and they all use a diffrent setup even tho i was only useing the 1 tarmac 1/3 mile oval to run on.
I rekomend INDORALLY and XHRally1 as good rally tracks to try for drifting on dirt ( jumps arnt to big so you can spend more time drifting instead of waiting to land) but they wouldnt be as injoyable as pikes would be i think( drowling thinking about it!!!)
Cheers: Richie

You're welcome, Smoke.I'm just glad to know it helps. And as I mentioned in this thread....that MTEG Stadium Truck mod would be a great one to use on testing that track with too. It's based on the old Mickey Thompson offroad trucks...with guys like Ivan Stewart, Roger Mears...etc. MTEG stands for "Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mickey_Thompson_Entertainment_Group Phathry25 (one of the old dirt gurus on physics) worked very hard and for a long time, on getting the most realistic physics he could for Heat in a dirt truck mod....so it's one of the best for that type of thing. Of course when it comes to Pikes Peak....about anything can be used...LOL.The real race allows all types of vehicles and motorcycles and even those big rigs with wings. ;D I figured the MTEG mod might get you up the hill a bit faster than legends cars though....LOL
