Perhaps, but that is also partially in 'fault'of HEAT itself, since it too has no flexibility whatsoever by installing it to a different location. One has to edit registries and such to even make it look for mods somewhere else. Normal users should not even think of fiddling with registry keys for that matter. Thats a 'designflaw' in HEAT. So i would say that ML2 rather is tuned to that.
All in all, if u install essentials and mods and ML2 in the default locations as where they are supposed to be by default in XP it works like a charm. Why not let that be? It works best that way. Why trying to fix something that is totally not designed to work on Windows7/vista, different directories and such? Again if one buys a new pc now, the HDD is big enough to reserve a small partion to be allocated to an XP installation with HEAT.
In the end, this means running an OS (XP) just for Heat is the best option to run ur favorite Sim. A small price to pay for a sim this old but still popular. But thats just my view.

well you could swap them manually. that would render the ML2 tool totally useless now doesn't it??? I have made my system with a dual boot solution because to be honest i got sick and tired of the irratic behaviour of Windows Vista/7 regarding older games. I rather just install XP next to Win7 and play games in Windows XP without problems (LFS also seems to have network issues when running it on Win7) and i dont see any advantage running Win7 for these games. Its useless. The games dont use Directx 10/11 at all anyways. And since one wants to run Windows 7 that means ur harddrive is big enough to have a 20GB partition reserved for XP. I had the chance to test Heat and ML2 in a brand new system with Win7 in an powerful Intel i7 processor. I did exactly what Triz did, installed Win7 and Xp in their own partitions and tested the performances in the same machine. Beyond of all issues Win7 does, stupidly hiding the files somewhere in the "outer space"..... I found (when I finally got it working) it sucked big time in performance when compared with XP. XP works 30% better in graphic performance than Win7..... that seems to use most of the graphic resources for its own embellishment instead of the user programs. Thumbs down Win7, IMO. .

My mate has win 7 and is having a hard time installing ML2 and mods, it opens his heat folder when launching G2 Platinum via mod launcher regular.

Maybe he can try to put the programmes in compatibility mode for XP. That might help. He should go to the Nheat folder and right click on the exe's and go to properties. Then select compatibility and select run in compatibility mode for XP SP3. he shold do this for the ML2 and for Nheat itself. I got it to work that way. (though still I use real XP for racing since Heat runs better on that it seems.)
Also the carswapper doesnt really work in ML2 under Windows 7. Probably because Win7 doesnt allow programmes to change files just like that in program files folder. Probably has to do with user rights. I guess even as administrator its still prohibited for programmes to changes files.
cheers,
Triz

On my notebook runs Win7, and it works fine with ML1; never tried ML2. ML1 came with Essentials
The other way to start mods is by creating a shortcut: "C:\Program Files\Hasbro Interactive\Nascar Heat\nheat.exe" -mod:modname

From what i have read it is possible to have nheat in win7 64bit which my new computer had, but nheat is not that newer game and is VERY friendly on the fps.
So on the occasions that I fancy a nheat race with you guys at the weekends which i do sometimes do, I just run my old XP laptop with nheat... because it works every time, i get 50fps easily and it is just less hassle than trying to get everything working on 7.
Oscar.

i have windows 7 64 bit, and this is how I did it. The disc wouldn't fully install, so instead, i got nascar heat essentials, and added what i needed from the disc, like the original tracks and whatnot. I'm not sure if this would work for everyone, but yeah.
