I got a new laptop with vista installed and I need a moddeling program as I cant get my questionably aquired ones to work. I know and have used truespace so i think i'll dl that but does anyone have any real modelling/rendering experience with blender? Should I look at it instead? BTW wireless internet on a laptop rocks, can't wait to go to starbucks and surf with a coffee

Depends on what you're up to do modeling-wise, Kev Blender ist great for getting 3D renders, but IMO its far over-the-top in case you just wanna do 3D modeling. AC3D is some recommendable modeling software, if its the modeling you're up for. And though it isn't for free, you can get a limited copy for free for testing. Full version comes ~ 80 US $ If you're used to zmod, zmod2 may be worth checking as well. Test version for free, full version 60 US $. Bad ol' buggy zmod 1.07b , however, still is entirely for free - and the only prog apart from 3ds Max 3.x having a NHeat export filter

thanks guys, never thought id care for a lap top but i might be changing my mind
i really dont like vist but it came with an upgrade to 7 so i'll be doing that soon, as for the software, i can use max so i'd like something as comprehensive as that, TrueSpace and blender (i think) both model, render and animate so that's what im thinkin. i think that treuspace has run its course though as its no linger being developed or supported so i installed blender and we'll see how that goes. might get zmod too though.

I thought it was because i thought he made the heat imp/exp I'm not sure if Kevin Combs helped on the Zmod plugin for Heat or not, but I know he's the one who made the .mod plugin for 3dsmax 3 But no....that 2 different Oleg's there. Our Oleg was from Latvia. Not sure where the Oleg from Zmodeler is located, but it could be Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Russia or any of a number of different places in Europe or Russian type areas. And Latvia is basically Russian...just on the southern end (where it's warmer).

And Latvia is basically Russian...j uh -oh... that's something you better never tell any native Latvian. A lot of baltic state natives tend to have some strong feelings about relationship to Russia. And that didn't just start at 1945
