Not been a pest but this forum and website "speedsims" is quite helpful for my brain and i tend to like to ask a lot of questions so i'm sorry for being a noob lol
I am about to runa linux server for heat rFactor and possibly Ventrilo (i know how to set servers up) * Besides ventrilo, can anyone help me? I am using Ubuntu.....
* I am wanting to know if the servers will crashing and lagging if i run all these applications on one VPS server. Yes or no and how to resolve the problem.
* Also if i am looking to run 10-20 players on heat (and vent & rFactor) 24/7 for a month how much usage of bandwidth will i use up? or an estimation as i am only purchasing 100 gigs.
* And i am having trouble setting up two heats so i can have two dedicated servers, i have looked on the mod squad and i am having slight trouble, i'm not quite onto it and have no idea how to sign up there etc so i thought ill post it on here.
* (this may not happen but) would anyone like to make a mod for me lol, i can send you pictures of what i would like (car wise) and send you what the background of the game is like etc... all credit goes to you, you can advertise etc.. on it. Ill even pay ya Just wondering anyone keen?

no, but you may run on low bandwidth and that may heavily affect how much use the race servers will be. We have run LFS and Heat on same server at same time, but only for practicing, never racing. For that bandwidth reason

The problem you'll have is not about how many gigs you can up/download in total - but how many MBit you can do at the same second. 20 players on a Heat fat server require about 2.2 MBit upload bandwidth. rF will probably require even more bandwidth, while ventrilo much less.
So instead of checking for monthly traffic, better make sure the server's line can go > 2MBit upload

You sign on at TMS like you did here. Only difference is that you don't get an automatted confirm msg, but have to wait for getting a clearance from one of their admins

Do you have any idea about how long it takes to make even just a single car ? And making a mod isn't just making a car. Let's see... we have a single car mod close to release right now and we were REALLY lucky on that one as I got the real car's 3D data so didn't have to work just on base of some photos . Work on that mod started back in February. Now we have August. Counting on the safe side, I'd say about several hundreds hours of work have been spend on making this mod
You wanna pay for making a mod ? How much ? I'd be interested only when it's at least some midsize 4-digit amount of $ ;D
Or in case I'm interested in making that car myself and all the required additional work (research mostly for: specs, photos, blueprint, engine sound,...) has already been done and is ready for go. THAT case you'd get the mod for free ;D
But that's about as likely as snow in midsummer here

You name a price, i can't really go over the amount $120 NZ dollars, If i have all the research (which i do) each and every bit of it all ild like you to do is some how make a file or something to put in game etc... Pm me or something if your keen
Then, you have to wait until either TWChad or myself approve you... which we will, since you have signed up here and aren't from Connecticut (inside joke)... and then you'll have to check your email for the confirmation link to click and then you should be good to go after that.
I seem to remember someone from New Zealand signing up the other day, and I approved them...but after 24 to 48 hours, if you haven't clicked the link it send to your email, it just dies out and you'd have to do it all over again.
In case you are curious as to why we do admin approvals now, it is to keep our site safer and to be able to check and see who it is actually signing up. We have had some troublesome users in the past, and those few can be mostly blamed as to why we do things differently now.
Also...if you do sign up, you can send me a private message over here and let me know, and it "may" make it quicker...depending on when I see it.
I am at both places daily (more so at The Mod Squad though, since its my homepage)...LOL

I was joking about that getting paid I already have a job I'm getting paid for - and I do modding ONLY for a hobby. Like almost all other modders. The mentioned pricing was only to show what sums we would be talking about if getting paid for modding should make any sense at all.
If i have all the research (which i do) each and every bit of it all ild like you to do is some how make a file or something to put in game etc...
The problem is that if you have never done any modding, you wouldn't even know what exactly to search for. Which usually in the end results in the modder do most of the research himself again. Which each experienced modder has experienced a couple of times already.
As mentioned, usually a modder starts becoming keen if its about a car he WANTS to do. So my suggestion is you publicly post what car/mod you are about and list up what kind of detail info you already have.
What you need to have: - Car body: a blueprint like this ( www.the-blueprints.com/vectordrawings/show/837/pagani_zonda_c12_f ) . Having to do 3D moddeling only on base of photos is tricky and a pain and MUCH increases workload/required time - For every car paint: high res photos from front/both sides/rear - high res cockpit photos - clean engine sound sample at single rpm - physics specs at least about length/width/height/weight/power/torque/wheelbase/rpm range/topspeed, tire size+width
If you can offer all this, it much increases the likelyhood someone might indeed want to give it a go
OK... you've been approved again at The Mod Squad.
And when doing names, passwords and emails... always try and make it something you can easily remember.... even if its ten years down the road.
I have used the same name, email and password now on the Internet for 10 years myself. My passwords usually involve something really simple... like my favorite race car drivers initials and numbers.
And as far as the mod you wanted.... tell us what it is.... it may have already been made in the 10 years Heat has been around. There have been hundreds of mods made in all these years.... but also in that time, many modders have left for newer games too.... so very few of us are left to make mods anymore.... and as Cholerix says, most of the time, it would have to be something the modder has a big interest in doing to begin with.
... which we will, since you have signed up here and aren't from Connecticut (inside joke)...
I'll sign up a few more accounts to see if your security is up to par . Unfortunate that all accounts from connecticut will get denied.
Cheers from Connecticut!
Back to the topic.
@op are your servers going to be Road Course, Dirt, Oval etc. For roadcourse and Dirt you would want fat so that you can see the sliding etc, on oval you can probably get away with Thin.
You said your interested in NZ stocks (fun racing I must say), raced with Bryce Harding and RichieNZ308 a few times, of course I got killed Use fat Thin makes it easy for lag hits and lots of accidents.
