SCGTS has quickly moved to the top if my all time favourite mod list, nudging WGTC and Group C aside in the process. I was only slightly dissappointed to find there was no GT3 Panoz Esperante - I juz luvs those lil cars! Drove one a lot in SCGT so... I figured might as well go make one! am about to start mapping the lights, body etc. Interior is done at least from the outside, got a bit carried away with the polys (been spoiled by making things for rFactor) so need to trim more from this before final production. Have yet to do the inside cockpit - those are a pain. Have to do new skins, probably recreating the ones from the game although they were pretty naff, but just to keep it "authentic". There was a grey one too, started at GTQ class with a red and blue stripe. Might add a "fictional" one, the company orange black and grey I was thinking. Its been fun working on HEAT again! Bubba

Looks really nice And would be a great addition for sure I didn't add the Esperante as I wasn't able to get any useful photos or even just info of that car I'd love to add the Esperante to the mod! The other cars have about 4000 polys in high1 LOD and explizit LOD modeling for high2-high9. Door and engine hood frames for example are 3D, as are any air intakes. I'd want to keep any addition on that level. If you would want to have this car added to the mod, I'd be happy to help on this any way I can. Just yell Should even be possible to add it for the upcoming series ;D if not working alone

so to take this 1 setp farther, what if we could find some ppl to model current ALMS cars? Could / would these be a fun addition? (I've been wanting an excuse to build a car in max for a long time now)

Sure you can add any car to run with the mod. Technically
But opposite to SCGT times modders have turned to putting only cars to a mod that actually have run at the same time. And preferably in the same races. Adding some kind of historical accuracy
So IMO one way to go would be either adding 96-97 WSC cars to the mod. Or the 96-97s GT1 cars that had been shipped with original SCGT. The WSC cars are kind of ancestors to current ALMS prototype cars ;D
But: You can for sure take the GTS mod's base (UI, Wheels and such) for putting in current ALMS cars.

actually i was thinking of an SCGT'09, same mod, different era of cars, as opposed to adding them to the current car selection set. but maybe the ALMS cars would be better suited to be added to the GroupC mod...GroupC'09

Interesting stuff here. Why wouldn't everyone who can help do something with this? It could become a project members of speedsims can work together on. Cholerix as the leader and quality control. Those who can edit heat can work on stuff and send it to Karl. He could check if the quality is good and add it to the site. He could also lead the group so everybody is thinking in the same direction. And most important we all could help newbee's to start editing heat. I would love to help.

I would like to model cars but also tracks. Maybe if Suchayo wants he could bring the tracks into Heat. Till now i failed in that. And offcourse i could paste the stuff together. I pasted a mod together that i couldn't release because permission problems. LMP's and GT cars(Le Mans2 and WGTS) together.Don't ask for it,it won't be shared. No permission remember. And it's not that good either,Has a lot FPS problems. Not fun to play at all.

If you would want to have this car added to the mod, I'd be happy to help on this any way I can. Just yell yelling! Be happy to have some help with this especially the HIGH[0]pit, to have one the level of detail as the mustang is. I have to bring the polys on this down for a final target of about 4300 in high[1] and then do reduced models for the LOD ones. I took a look at your mustang which is I think 4300 in high[1] and it obviously works so that's about where I am aiming. The cockpit is too detailed at the moment for an exterior model so that is to be replaced to save polys. Air intakes are 3D, door sills and hood aren't at the moment. I have based a lot of this on the current Esperante GTS model, although this car is the 99-2000 model and looks a bit different. I'll finish the mapping and high[1] model in the next few days and then I'll post it or PM it to you to have a look at. cheers! Bubba

Great idea and one that's been mooted more than once before. Co-operative projects are hard to work on however, as the time involved and the varying degrees of involvement sometimes lead to problems. None of us can spare the time to do this full time, its a hobby, and fun (most times) and while most, like me, are always happy to help with whatever we can, its often hard to get it all together all at the same time. I used to work on co-operative flight sim projects with others but at times, the progress was slower than working on my own - as others were away on holidays or overwhelmed with work or have final exams or girlfriend problems etc etc etc... however, we press on! viva! What an awesome idea! I can see your point though however bubba, but at those hard times when it is just one person working, that will be just like 1 person doing it? correct me if I am wrong but I believe in the many hands make light work theme. If this goes ahead my skills thus far are pretty much only editing in notepad drivers txt options.cfg etc etc, only the simple stuff although I can make installers, put together .res files, more than keen to learn anything else though

I'd LOVE to see some bigger project working ! But I have to say bdford is correct. Or has been up to now at least. There had been several starts on big modding projects in Heat community in the last 4 years and none of these survived for more that a couple of month. As soon as people were realizing what amount of work they personally would have to do, they were faster hopping of than fleeing rabbits. Even those who had initiated the project. Oh, all had some very valid reason for not continuing on, and all at about the same time. Looks like it's quite a different matter from wanting to do something to really do it. btw... this is no different in rFactor or anywhere else ! There's a lot of come and go. And if there is not at least 1 modder who puts all his faith and energy to a mod, that project is dead in no time. You wonder why some mods in rF have taken 3 years or others still are in the works ? for that very reason As mentioned I'd LOVE to see some bigger mod project working in Heat. But I'm a little sceptical on this from experience und thus only will start believing in it when there are things coming together. Visibly ;D But I'll support any way I can nonetheless

yes, its sad but true that "collective" or "community" mods are hard to get going and keep going in any game, not just HEAT. The most successful mods have usually been the work of individuals or a small dedicated team, say 2-3 people at most with a few helpers.
There's a mod for Group A that's been in work for R Factor for over 3 years and last I heard it seemed that it was running out of steam. IMO it was way too ambitious and too large in scope - simply huge in size, its best to start small and add on later. It takes a TEAM of people working all day everyday years to make some of the larger games that we buy retail, and big mods are not much smaller in scope, sometimes.
I myself am loathe to suggest "hey lets all make a mod about ...." because the moment I do my volatile work situation will change, as it often does, at it could be weeks or months before I have free time again.
Best to hope for is that there are always some people keen to help with projects. Not everything I want to build may appeal to all, I accept this. I like 50s era sports cars, 1970 Le mans cars, Group A touring cars, Group C2 sports cars, and would like to make mods or even just cars to run in other mods, even if just for my own amusement.
My idea on mods in general, especially big projects is to have a plan and stick to it, start SMALL and build up. You HAVE to get something out there, even if only a rough test beta for the testing crew, within say 3 months or the enthusiasm starts to wane. a 50 car mod takes forever, but 10 cars to start with and more sets of ten later makes more sense and is do-able as well as keeps people interested.
I mostly build cars although I have made whole mods. I like making cars, NOT so keen on making cockpits for them, would be nice if someone else could do screens and the interface, someone else doing sounds would speed things along too.
I was toying with the idea of an SCGT '08 mod the idea of which was suggested, as I had started working along that route on some projects of my own. It might be interested to see what happens if some others want to pitch in and help.

btw... biggest task on my plate still is adding GT1 cars to SCGTS mod
First steps on doing this have been started, but since it's about 5-6 cars to be made, it's quite a lot work I'm looking forward to. Means I have to be in some special (addict) mood to really start working on it.
So if anybody wants to help on this ... that may trigger that certain mood on me ;D Else it will just take a longer while to get done
