Since the series doesn't start till 12 days from now and I'm a bit restless for competition thought we'd post our best laps for whichever of the 8 tracks that is on the schedule. Here's my Grand Valley best, mind you that this was with just a few minor tweaks of the advanced setup so I'm sure someone out there can blow it away ;D . Attachments:

At Spikes request, the schedule page has been updated with some new race lengths for some tracks.. Also please note, you are allowed one provisional for any race for this series... Just like past series raced here @ SS.. Just post on the forum, if you need a provisional for a race. Also please note if you do not post or inform an admin about needing a provisional, you won't receive any, unless you let them know. Unfortunately, I won't be racing in this series. But Spike if you wanna hit the track sometime next week I would love to run some at Grand Valley, absolutely love this track.. Good luck everyone in the series! Dave

Thanks Dave , Hope you can at least make a few of the races I'll try down the road Spike. If I do, I'll show up in my ingame #83. Well since I guess everyone is ready for the race, and a little bit shy about sharing there lap times. Wes try shaving off 2 seconds off your lap time. Even more can be done imho. But that was just with running for a few laps. Good luck with the race!

One thing I've noticed about being here, at first I broadcasted my lap times, but I think people fear that if they broadcast their lap times, they maybe showing their hand, showing how fast they can go. Then they get snookered on race day due to setup constraint, so they would rather keep it quiet. Although those who practice, and get on the same level, usually get within a second of each other. In heat, that's pretty good. Although, on raceday everyone shows their best hand, because they have to in order to win. Now that may not be the best lap, could be long term times due to tire wear.
One thing it's hard to tell where the best time will be at. I'll give an example, since the race is over. F1 Melbourne, I did my first heat race in awhile, but for me, I need to practice in order to get where I want to be. When I set up the base setup for the car, I got a 1:31.9. I looked at that, I had only done 9 laps of practice, most of which were shakedown laps in order to get the car going. So I made an estimate I should gain about 3 seconds on that time. I made this estimate based upon the F1 race I did, and got beat by hammer and triz pretty good. I did that, in fact more than that, I got 1:28.4 by the end. However I did get beat due to other reasons.
Anyways, the point is some people are shy for a reason, some are afraid to give away their advantage, or afraid to show their disadvantage. I'm pretty meticulous when it comes to setups and practice as my team can attest to that.

Right now I'm at 2:12. But I've only completed three laps so far. When I say completed I mean I've attempted other laps, but I usually have had to restart. lol When it gets closer to the race (if I can do it) I'll practice in earnest.

You do have a point some people are afraid to show there disadvantage. But yes, there is a but. For most SpeedSims league races in the past I've and a few others have always made it a point, to show up for practice on the server, so other guys could grab our gcf (fastest ever lap) or save a replay. Reason being, for most RC tracks you can practice off line. And by chasing someone elses ghost car you will learn there line, and learn how to start going a little bit faster.. You can ask Spike, Cruise any of those guys, I use to do it for them on RC and ovals. It's actually better for RC tracks imho. but that's another story. Back in the day Crash and I would send each other our gcfs back and forth, just so we would have our own personal fun of trying to see who would get faster. But also at the same time help one another out. Just two buddies having fun.. Sure we would try to kick the other one's butt on the track, but it WAS about the fun of it. If you get my meaning. We were never shy to say if the other one was faster or what not. But that was just between him and I. Friends just having fun.. Most of the time, guys do enjoy practicing together, to help one another out, or just to get rid of stress from working all day long. This was there way to unstress after working all day. But now a days, especially in oval races, people don't want to talk about there pit strategy. Not so much lap times. Because basically if you've been around the block in this game for a while, you know exactly what to expect against the other guys.. Most of the time, you want to figure out if your best advantage for a certain track is doing fuel or speed. But, Lap times. nah Most guys don't mind sharing there lap times from what I know. It's the pit strategy they keep mostly to themselves. Or they won't share there setup.. But setups with some peeps that's a total different animal especially when racing ovals. Well I guess just about any track now a days. What do I know. lol

The setup I used for the GrandValley laps is the one Dave posted in the setups section of the Shelby series for Grand Valley East . Cruise if your still having issues with them being too loose raise brake ratio to 65 and move weight to the front in small increments. For Baton Short I'd use Blackhawk farms setup as a base setup. Cadwell & Seven hills I'd use Birmingham as a base setup as those tracks are hilly. The rest of the schedule has good setups in the setups folder or in the setups section of the Shelby series. Just a reminder tomorrow 4pm eastern we're having a 'Track Day' practices

I'm pretty meticulous when it comes to setups and practice as my team can attest to that. Times are not everything. Being fast is ofcourse ideal, but doesn't make a win certain. I for one made to many mistakes on Brands Hatch with pole and a gap in the first 10 laps. I also get what u mean about posting time, people being shy to post it or having other reasons not to post. I too look at the online praccy times and tend to go back to single player garage just to tweak some more. I like knowing where the competition is, but if times are not available I would always try to squeeze out every tenth of a second. cheers, Triz

Here's one of mine from over the weekend . What I find interesting about Lime Rock is it seems like a very easy course to drive from the track maps however once your driving it you realize it isn't easy at all with all the short turns and the hill. Don't forget practice is @ 4pm est Thrusday Attachments:
