I posted this at the mod squad as well.
So I've messaged at least one person about this idea. I've been trying this idea off and on since i got linux in various forms. But somehow I got it to work, Mod launcher and all! At least I got it to launch, and play.
the wine version i used 1.4.1 I think i had used it for Command and Conquer red alert 3.
I'm using Linux Mint 15.
but there are issues.
3 main issues.
Sound is choppy and jumpy. Doesn't seem to go fluidly.
Video is not very good either, and I know it's not the card because it runs fine in windows. Doesn't matter which resolution either because it's just choppy.
My steering wheel is lacking force feedback.
But this is very promising so far. I think with some more work and tweaks I can get to run better.
Any tips or discussion would be greatly appreciated.

It's quite a feat that you got it running! I only managed to get the dedicated server running. Though that is not really a graphical environment, only use X really. There is a newer wine version out, not sure if that will help with performance. Thing is that with wine the computer needs to do an extra step to add a layer for a windows enviroment. That requires quite some processing power. The are some sites out there that have how to's about running wine and windows games. Maybe WineTricks has some use for you. WineTricks is a little application which you can use to install additional windows system utilities and directX. wiki.winehq.org/winetrickscheers, Triz
