Got a bit of a strange connection situation I discovered yesterday.
Here`s a bit of back story for those who do not know.
You all know the race dramas I`ve been having since getting a new PC.Which for some time I attributed to Vista.
Even to the extent of getting another HDD installed, with dual boot so I could switch to XP for racing.
Well that did`nt solve the problem as it turned out, as evidenced by the dramas I had with lag/warp at Infineon in the WGTC event. That was using good old XP.
Everything on the XP installation is identical to the other 3 XP machines in the house, which there have been no problems with racing. Same updates, all service pack 3, anti virus, settings etc.
Things different are motherboards, RAM & graphics cards. Of the other three, two are Intel & one is AMD. RAM is 512 in one & 1GB each in the other two. The graphics cards are all Nvidia 256Mb.
In my PC it`s an M3A78-EH AMD board, with 4GB RAM & an 768Mb Nvidia 9600 GSO.
Now here is the weird thing I discovered last night. Was getting a file transfer from Cooknl, at the same time I was fixing problem that had caused multiplayer to crash the previous morning. When I got it running, I connected to the speedsims server. Low & behold the ping was perfect(like it always used to be) for my distance. Whenever I try using this PC, ping is always about 100 higher than it should be.
Thinking I had stumbled across a fix for problem with racing on this PC, I asked Rob to if he could set up game for a test after the file transfer was over.
Sure enough, same crappy warp & bad ping!!..
But then today I tried connecting to speedsims server again, whilst at the same time downloading a large file. Low & behold ping was great!
Tried it a few times to be sure. When i`m downloading something, ping for heat is where it should be. When not, ping goes through the roof.
In all the years i`ve been racing, this makes absolutely no sense to me... It`s always the other way, if your downloading anything...heat ping goes to the crapper!
So work that one out if ya can fellas....
Cheers...
