i have a rF license and like you. I have only spend little time on it. The reason why I didn't spend more time on it is that it didn't match my expectations - at all.
The ingame cars are plain crap IMO. Or let's say I don't like them. And regarding mods it has same problem that F1C already had - only worse. There's only very few mods out there that are NOT single car mods - and those that have multiple cars are next to useless for online racing as the cars are not competitive - and they are almost all very demanding on hardware because of those very high res textures on the cars
Netcode isn't nearly as good as Nheat's FF feels .... weird. rF has a lot of nice tracks - but the same tracks are all available for GTR2 as well. And GTR2 has better FF and physics. And at least as good graphics. And same lack of good netcode...
From the point of view as a modder rF is even worse. The amount of work you have to spend on the making of a halfway reasonable car in rF is that much that there's no way to produce a mod in reasonable time - unless you team up. But even then its close to a full time job. Which is the reason why there's only very few big mods out - and why all of these have taken several years in the making

I have it too...but un-installed it awhile back.I had actually followed it from it's inception...and it was pretty much promoted as a modders dream platform. You could have about any type of car or track you wanted...yada, yada, yada. As I found out (being an offliner), it's not what I cared for in terms of anything regarding AI racing. It's still to this day, a buggy game as far as it's rules. The AI cars are invunerable in terms of trying to spin them or even move them a little too. Being that I like mostly oval / short track type of racing...I just haven't seen much that peaks my interest enough to re-install it and give it a third or 4th chance. There is a pretty good NASCAR mod (called SCE) that is ok.The models look great...done by professional modelers...but as Karl points out....very high res textures are still used (2048x2048) and that just taxes a system to death unless you have a supercomputer. And I also agree with Karl about GTR2.I happen to still have it installed and I enjoy it.It's AI is alot better...it's rules seem to work...but again, high res textures and all that kind of hurts alot in terms of running vast fields of cars. It's just as moddable as rFactor too...which is why you will see so many ports from one to the other. Both use the ISI engine...rFactor being made by ISI themselves....GTR2 by Simbin. But it's oddly funny that Simbin could do a better job with the platform than ISI could do. I did read awhile back that Simbin is now developing their own sim racing engine...Lizard. www.simbin.se/main/technology.htmBut back about rFactor....the NAGT mod might be pretty good (made by The Pits) and it has options for low res paints and such. It's a multi-car mod based on the Speed World Challenge (or whatever it's called)...and it has cars like the Cadillac CTS, Corvette ZO6, Mustang, Volvo...etc. It did take them a few years to make it though...and that's a group that has been making mods for many, many years on various platforms (including for Heat when it came out). I'd like to see how that one does...so one day I'll reinstall and try it.But it probably won't be until Team Players releases the Grand Slam (Grand Am Daytona Prototypes) mod...as that one is really the only one that has me the least bit interested in reinstalling rfactor. If NAGT and Grand Slam were to be ported to GTR2....I'd be happy. Then I'd leave rfactor off here.

I had a licensed copy of GTR2. Until I noticed it tried to install STEAM
Though that was an improvement to GTR, which was using STARFORCE (worst kind of spyware that cripples your PC). But ever since I've run Halflife2 on my PC I promised to myself to never again run any game that uses STEAM either
Don't need any such crap on my PC. And I'll boycott any company/game that tries to ships it's software with such bullshit-addons like STARFORCE, STEAM or anything alike
That makes all SIMBIN sim no-goes

yeah, I have Rf, have had it since it came out! I have tried to love this game, no...really..I have! leepe But...its a bit like a $50 whoor after you've had three beers...looks great and luscious and promising, and you get all wet mouthed and hard and horny...
....
....... and afterwards, you find it was all a bit of misplaced excitement and it was just a regular f&$% anyway...
has never quite delivered on the promise.
Yet I have Heat, and had it for YEARS... got it from the ORIGINAL BOXED SET! And I still play it, why?
BALANCE!
Yes, between graphical glitz, and racing gritz... its got BALANCE. I have NR2003 as well yet still use HEAT as my NASCAR simulator too.
Viva HEAT!

Agree 100% more. Another thing HEAT has is that it is ALIVE. I been a LFS junkhead for the past years and im now bored of it to death. Where do I look for online racing at its best again? Exactly, feeling the heat again

kills two birds with one stone ;D yes but is that environmentally friendly? Bubba ;D ;D HAHAHA Good call!! I've had to bring myself under control that was the best laugh I have had in a long time ;D ;D. Now those birds were both old and getting near there time in fact they both lined up for me in an orderly fashion. The stone I used I went and picked up washed it and placed it back into the fresh water stream in which it came from. I then dropped the birds off at the local shelter to feed the homeless children .
