Thanks for your help so far guys (paint.net is fairly good) now I'm wondring - what do you use for web authoring?
I've been using an "aquired" version of frontpage express but with my laptop on win7 I want to move to legal apps. I've been doing some looking and I don't really like the open source stuff I've found. (Nvu, Coffeecup...) Also I understand that frontpage has been discontinued and it's features bundled into word - great but I dont got word either, just works. I don't mind paying for an authoring package but I dont want to spend huge bucks and I want to make sure it'll do what I want.

Are you just doing html coding?? If so don't ever use CoffeeCup editor, it's a piece of crap. If you need to use an editor try a dotnet editor. There great and don't produce all the garbage with your code, like CoffeeCup does. Most of the time for html coding I just use plain old note pad to code with. I guess in some respects I like the good old fashion stuff. Just been around this kind of stuff way to long I guess.

I'd at least recommend using some syntax highlighting editor, such as textpad, gedit or bluefish - which is " targeted towards programmers and webdesigners". Makes html editing much easier . For hardcore users the recommended choice would be gvim, which is the most powerful editor you could think of. Based on vi Gedit, bluefish and gvim are open source software and free

If you dont want HTML you can install the Wordpress editor to your site and use it to edit text... then use CSS for the design... last-lap-motorsports.tk/ is my temporary site atm... it uses that.. easy to edit designs if you like the way its layed out alreayd.. as everything is jpg images
